Program Types
If there is any confusion about the terminology of program types, use the descriptions below to better understand program characteristics as well as the variance in student responsibilities and outcomes of participating in different types of programs.

Affiliated Programs are administered by a third-party program provider. StateU has reviewed and approved these program providers. StateU students participating in an "Affiliated Program" will need to complete a two-step application and enrollment process with both the StateU Abroad Office and directly with the Program Provider.
- StateU can not guarantee that a StateU student will be accepted into a specific affiliated program. Admissions decisions are managed by the affiliated program provider.
- StateU students will pay for all program fees directly to the affiliated program provider.
- Students are responsible for understanding what is included and what is Not included in the program fees.
- StateU students will receive "resident credit" from StateU on his/her StateU transcript upon successful completion of the program.
- Eligible StateU students are typically able to utilize federal financial aid (except Work Study) to pay for program costs.
Other ProgramsPrograms listed in the "Other Programs" category with the StateU Abroad Office are examples of programs that StateU students have previously gotten approved. These programs have no formal affiliation with StateU. Thus, these programs have been approved for StateU students on an individual basis. To be eligible to participate in a program that is neither a StateU Program, nor an Affiliated Program, a StateU student must show evidence that the program meets an academic need for the student that would not be otherwise available from a StateU Program, nor an Affiliated Program.
- Unless a program is pre-approved by the StateU Abroad Office, a StateU student will not be eligible for financial aid processing at StateU, nor transfer credit from an un-approved program.
- Other Programs are reviewed and approved for StateU students based on the following criteria:
- academic specialty not offered through StateU, nor Affiliated Programs
- accreditation standards of host institution
- evidence of academic rigor and standards
- standards of student support services
- health and safety standards
